Traffic Sucks!

Traffic Sucks!

Getting stuck in traffic is one of the most frustrating ways to waste your time.  Traffic is nothing new to me, as I now live in California, the 11th most densely populated state in the country.  However, I am originally from the most densely populated state in the country, New Jersey.   I often find myself wasting countless minutes and hours in my car commuting to and from work, even on the weekends.  In California, 18 miles can quickly turn into a 50 minute drive and if I am heading in the direction of LA, 30 miles can equate to 2 hours in the car.  Luckily, I found a way to turn this brutal traffic into a positive experience.

Turn a Negative into a Positive – Use Podcasts!

Last year, when my commute changed from five to fifty minutes, I couldn’t stand the idea of wasting so much time in the car.  I decided I had to figure out a way to make this negative into a positive experience.  If there was a way I could enhance my education while in the car through audio form, my commute spent stuck in traffic would quickly improve.

I started listening to audio books and found myself enjoying my commute more, especially when I was really interested in the book!  After listening to two or three books on my commute, I struggled to find more at the library. It was then that I realized that audio books are expensive and if I wanted to keep listening to them the costs would eventually start to add up.  Luckily shortly after this audio book bummer I discovered podcasts, and now educate myself on a range of topics from physical well-being, financial freedom, passive income, and real-estate every time I am in my car.

What is a podcast?

Podcast

According to Google, a podcast is a digital audio file made available on the Internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device.  Typically podcasts are available as a series and new installments of them can be received by subscribers automatically.  With the discovery of podcasts, I am now able to turn those frustrating hours spent in traffic into a positive experience by educating myself on various interesting topics.

Fortunately, podcasts are FREE and let you subscribe to the latest episodes, fast-forward, rewind, and select the speed at which you want to listen!  There are thousands of podcasts available for download or streaming on any device.  All you have to do is find an interesting topic: motivation, sports, health, wealth, real-estate, the stock market and start listening today!  Who knows, you just might learn something new!

Podcasts I subscribe to and recommend:

  • Bigger Pockets Podcast – A real estate investing podcast
  • The Tim Ferriss Show – A series of podcasts where Tim deconstructs world-class performers
  • Business and Biceps – A podcast on entrepreneurship and physical health

Summary:

  1. Traffic sucks, turn a negative into a positive
  2. Use your time wisely, while commuting to work or just driving in general, try to gain something out it.
  3. Leverage podcasts, audio-books, or even learn a new language on your way to work!n
